Challenge: 50 Shades of Grey!

Welcome to a brand new challenge! Did we get you guessing what this one could be? Well we have Caryn to thank for dreaming up this challenge as she is a big fan of the bestselling er.. ladies novel…. Fifty Shades of Grey! I have to admit I haven’t read it yet although I was given it in a Secret Santa at New Year but it hasn’t been opened yet.

Now don’t worry… we’re not expecting you to come up with anything too saucy for this challenge! Maybe instead you’ll be inspired by the idea of the colour scheme as Caryn and I were. Aimes is taking a break from the blog for a few days but will hopefully back later in the week.

(I must apologise for the picture, I’m keeping it small as the quality is so poor  –  blame my good camera for dying on me:(, I’ll try to update a better one later.)  I’ve realised this is a stamp-free card! Instead I went for a monchromatic card with several ‘shades of grey’!

Card: True Black, SU Neutrals
Card: Bitty Dots (PTI)
Dies: Lower case alpha (PTI), scalloped border (PTI), Mat Stack 1 & Layerz 1(PTI)

Over to Caryn:

I bet the theme this week caught your eye didn’t it??!!  Of course this being a craft related blog our “Grey” refers to the colour, NOT the hunky Mr Grey!!  PTI doesn’t have a great range when it comes to “shades of grey” but with a bit of creative stamping (and the fact that the two versions of Smokey Shadow ink that I have are totally different) allowed me to get varying shades on my card.  I created a floral pattern by pulling out lots of different sets and using all the little floral images from them.  The heart was cut out using a nestabilities die and then I placed some gorgeous grid patterned vellum I found in my local art shop under the aperture.  The sentiment underneath (from Heart Prints) takes on a nice, muted appearance which doesn’t come out that well in the photo!!

{Love You Forever}
Stamps: Botanical Silhouettes, Everyday Classics, Beautiful Blooms, Beautiful Blooms II, Wreath for all Seasons, Boxes, Bags and Tags, Heart Prints.
Ink: Smokey Shadow (old and new)
Card: Stampers Select White, Smokey Shadow
Other: Adhesive rhinestones, HEART NESTIBILITIES, PINKING SHEARS

Over to Aimes:

So sorry about the delay – but better late than never eh?!

Now I’ll confess that I’ve never read the books but I’m a big fan of the colour grey so I got busy with a few supplies to whip this up:

just a note case study

Card Deets
{just a note}
Stamps: Happy Trails (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black, London Fog (Memento)
Cardstock: Soft Stone, Vellum (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Bird Perched Die (Memory Box)/Grey Twine (Doodlebug)/Linen and Canvas Impression Plate (Papertrey Ink)/Grey Marker (Promarker)

I used vellum for the lower part of the my card as well as behind my aperture I created. To add a little more interest to the aperture, I used a ruler to add a simple design to the vellum in the form of stripes. Easy peasy! 🙂

We hope you can join us this time round! Remember: one randomly selected peep will win a $5 PTI gift certificate! The challenge ends at 9am GMT Monday March 18th. Full deets of our challenge rules can be found here.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  2. I am always a fan of grey mixed with other subtle tones – especially pastels, so this was the perfect excuse to make a Spring-themed “grey” card. 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
