Challenge – Inspired by

Greetings and welcome to a new challenge! Are you ready to be inspired?!

As crafters we take our inspiration from many different sources – nature, packaging, clothing, fabric… the list is endless. So for this challenge we’re asking you to provide your own inspiration piece and make a card based upon it. Please add a picture or link to your inspiration piece with your entry.

I’ve been doing more sewing recently, and my fabric addiction is getting as bad as my stamping one! I love looking at beautiful fabrics, I can just never decided which ones to get!

I decided to base my card on a rather cool fabric I bought recently – I love this colour scheme (although like a lot of fabric I buy I still haven’t made anything from it yet!)IMG_1301

Inspired by the colour scheme I made a set of mini 3 x 3 Thank You notes:

Stamps: Round and Round (PTI) Ink: Hawai’in Shores, Summer Sunrise, Pure Poppy (PTI) Card: Hawai’in Shores, Summer Sunrise, Pure Poppy, Stamper’s Select White (PTI) Other: Sizzix border embossing folder (SU), Copic Markers Stamps: Round and Round (PTI)
Ink: Hawai’in Shores, Summer Sunrise, Pure Poppy (PTI)
Card: Hawai’in Shores, Summer Sunrise, Pure Poppy, Stamper’s Select White (PTI)
Other: Sizzix border embossing folder (SU), Copic Markers

Over to Aimes:

My source of inspiration came as a surprise even to me for this challenge! I’ve been burning the candle at both ends and studying hard for a very cool (in a geek chic kinda way) psychology course and I was inspired by the PowerPoint template used for a certain lecture on memory:

InspirationPlease ignore the blurb and lecturer – or be inspired yourself and take up a course! LOL! Although the lecturer, Prof. Steve Joordens, is pretty inspirational, it’s the strip of colour on the slide that inspired my card *wink*:

happy happy birthday

Card Deets
Stamp: Birthday Bash Sentiments (Papertrey Ink)
Cardstock: White, Spring Rain, Enchanted Evening, Orange Zest (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)

Over to Caryn:

Well my source of inspiration isn’t from one thing but from an entire event!  I was super-lucky to attend the Glastonbury Festival over the weekend and so was completely  immersed in sights, sounds and smells of every kind!  If that place doesn’t inspire you, NOTHING will.   One of the most enjoyable areas for me was spending time in the crafting tents in the Kidz field area.  The whole place is an explosion of colour and people dressed in all kinds of costumes just pop up everywhere (oh, and so did Chris Martin from Coldplay (just sayin’!!))

glasto

My card pays homage to the big Glastonbury sign that sits right at the top of the site.  The colours are bright and bold just like the whole festival!

100_7154Maria F

We loved how Maria interpreted the circular theme with her die-cut circle but maintained the continuity of those fabulous vines! And a great layout to boot!

PTI+&+PFPGreta H

Greta was the only entrant who made a circular card! We love how she kept the circular theme going throughout the card and used very on-trend ombre for her focal colour scheme!

Wow, what a bright and fun card – great colours! We loved the layout of Marlou’s fabulous creation, and especially her use of die-cuts throughout!

Challenge: Negative die cut

Hello there everyone and welcome to another challenge here at A Passion For Papertrey.  One of the techniques we are all big fans of here is the use of negative die cuts or apertures on a card and with all the dies available out there there is so much you can do with this design feature.  You can layer patterned papers, vellum (as both Aimes and I did on our cards for the last challenge), stamped images etc or create frames within frames, add embellishments (buttons, gems and so on).  So let you creative juices get flowing and show some negativity (in a positive way!!!)

I made this card for Dad’s birthday which he celebrated last week.  I struggle so much with masculine cards so they often get put off and put off which then leaves me panicking at the last minute!!  One of my go-to masculine sets from PTI is Grunge Me.  I recently picked up the dies that pair with the Pretty Peonies anniversary set from last year and really love the retro feel of the font used on the “Happy” die.  I thought it made a good partnership with some of the designs in Grunge Me so I started with that and it went from there.

 (1)

{Happy Birthday}
Stamps: Grunge Me, Pretty Peonies
Ink: Enchanted Evening, Orange Zest, Versamark
Cardstock: Soft Stone, Enchanted Evening, Orange Zest, Pure Poppy
Tools: Pretty Peonies die collection, Take Three die, white filigree embossing powder

Over to Kate: : “A very dear family friend passed away last week and so I had a few sympathy cards to make. I was searching for inspiration and decided to use our challenge as a kick-start. I die-cut the butterfly and adhered some bitty dots paper to the rear of my cream mat. Those who know me know I’m not exactly a fan of purple but it definitely works for a sympathy card doesn’t it..”

With Sympathy:
Stamps: Round and Round
Card: Vintage Cream, Royal Velvet
Paper: 2008 Bitty Dots
Other: Argyle Impression Plate, Butterfly die, Purple Baker’s Twine,
Double-Ended Banners Die

Over to Aimes:

I created a frame for my negative card by using two dies. I simply ran the Mat Stack Die #4 on aqua mist cardstock, removed the die and then placed the Fillable Frames #7 die on the centre.

Happy Happy Happy Birthday

{Happy Happy Happy Birthday}
Stamps: Modern Basics (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Cardstock: Stamper’s Select White, Aqua Mist, Soft Stone (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Mat Stack 4 Die, Fillable Frames 7 Die, Canvas and Linen Impression Plate, Yellow Button (Papertrey Ink)/Gold Foil (Glue Dots)/Grey Twine (Doodlebug)/Flower (Prima)/Pink Gems (Stash!)

I then simply added strips of super duper sticky tape to my frame and played with some gold foil that I purchased years ago. Funny how those old purchases have come full circle to be a supply I love again!

We’re looking forward to your fabulous creations! Remember: one randomly selected peep will win a $5 PTI gift certificate! The challenge ends at 9am GMT Monday April 8th. Full deets of our challenge rules can be found here.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Challenge: Christmas is coming!

Shock, horror – it’s nearly December! And you know what that means…. time to start making our Christmas cards! (Unless you’re super organised and have done it already… anyone?!)

So no surprises then that our new challenge is a Christmas one. At least by entering this challenge you’ll feel like at least you’ve started;)

I came up with two designs for this year’s cards and this week I’ll set about mass producing them. They have to be simple and flat! So here’s one of my designs:

Stamps: Snow Globe/Polka Dot Basics
Ink: Memento black/Pure Poppy/Aqua Mist
Card: White/Pure Poppy
Other: Snow Globe Die/Copic Markers

Over to Aimes:

Well I have to be super organised about Christmas this year as we’ve decided to move house this weekend – talk about crazy timing!

The shopping is done and almost wrapped, the family have been warned about our invasion into their homes for food and I’ve made all of my cards, including this one:

Stamps: Holiday Tree, Signature Christmas (Papertrey Ink)
Cardstock: Pure Poppy, White Shimmer (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)/Versamark
Accessories: Detail White Embossing Powder (Stampendous)/Country Landscape Die (Memory Box)/Cuttlebug (ProvoCraft)/White Glitter (Doodlebug)

Super simple and super flat – just the way Royal Mail like ’em! *wink*

And here’s Caryn:

Yay – it’s CHRIIIIISSSSTTTTMMMAAAAAASS!  I could not be in a more festive mood – one of my trees went up last weekend, the christmas school fair is tomorrow and it’s freezing!  Bring on Santa!  I also turn the “BIG 4 0” next Friday and we’re having a big Christmas themed birthday bash – so looking forward to it – can’t beat a bit of fancy dress!!  Anyhoo, onto my project for this challenge.  I recently got the new pillow box die from PTI and have been busy making little boxes.  They make ideal packaging for gift cards, sweeties, jewellery etc – I just love em!!!

Christmas Pillow Boxes 020

Stamps: Fillable Frames 9
Card: My Mind’s Eye – Wonderful Winter, Pure Poppy (PTI)
Ink: Fresh Snow, Smokey Shadow.
Tools: Oval and scalloped oval punch (SU), Pillow Box die (PTI)

And now it’s over to you!

Banu created a very stylish card that uses the fabulous quaterfoil die that just jumped out at us. Don’t the colours work well against the black and white?!

Don’t forget to check back later for our brand new challenge!

Kate, Aimes and Caryn xxx

Welcome!!!!

Hello and welcome to our new-look blog!!  If you have been following our previous blog you will know that we started out as a place to unite PTI fans here in the UK and Europe, but we have decided to go global!! Aimes, Caryn and I decided that it was time we had a change so welcome along to the new-look A Passion for Papertrey everyone!

So from now on, our challenges are open to all. You can find more about our challenge rules here but we should point out that we are not affiliated in any way to Papertrey Ink, and purchase all the prizes ourselves.

Now, have you got time for a little story?

Four years ago I was just getting into stamping, and found this small company called Papertrey Ink who, at that time, were releasing just one or two stamp sets a month. But then came the colours, the ribbon, the dies – all bound up in an exciting monthly release that I avidly followed. I was hooked!!

Around that time I joined a couple of online forums and started a blog, the result of which was that I ‘met’ Steph, we shared my love of Papertrey. We wanted somewhere where the UK and Europe fans could come together to share creations and take part in challenges – and so A Passion for Papertrey was born (along with an endorsement from Nichole Heady herself!)

Fast forward a year or so and unfortunately Steph had to step down from the blog (she is now running her own stamp company – go girl!) so I asked my lovely friend Aimes if she would step into Steph’s shoes. Aimes and I had met on a stamping forum and hit it off immediately.  Back then Aimes didn’t even have a blog (can you imagine) but I talked her into it!

Another fast forward in time and Aimes and I met Caryn, it didn’t take us long to decide that we needed her in our team…. she shared our love of stamping, PTI, Twilight and so much more! And here we are four years later! I count them as such dear friends  – we have so much fun when we meet up, and I feel very lucky to have them in my life.

Which brings me on to our first challenge!! Friends are such a special part of life and to celebrate this we would like you to make a Friendship card, or other papercrafting project. Remember you just need to include at least one PTI product on your creation to enter.

I decided to make a card for Aimes and Caryn, all three of us are clear about are favourite colours – Aimes is green, Caryn is red and I am aqua! Hence the colours of this blog by the way!

{Friend} All supplies Papertrey Ink
Stamps: Friends til the End, Trendy Tree Tops
Ink: Pure Poppy, Simply Chartreuse, Dark Chocolate
Other: Trendy Tree Tops Dies

Over to Caryn….

Hello all and welcome back to our new look challenge blog for lovers of all things Papertrey Ink (and other things too of course!!).  I’m so excited to see the blog all refreshed and revamped and can’t thank Kate enough for all the work she’s put into it.  I can’t take ANY credit at all so well done Kate!!

This first {of the new look blog} challenge is so appropriate for us as we’ve become really good friends through our mutual love of PTI and papercrafting (and Twilight but that’s another story!!!).

{Thinking of You}
Stamps: In Bloom
Ink: Memento London Fog
Card: Stampers Select white
Other: Linen/Canvas impression plate, ProMarkers

Over to Aimes:

Oooh what a wonderful make-over! Like Caryn, I can’t take an ounce of credit for the fabulous new-look blog and I really do owe Kate one for doing such a great job! Thanks, Kate! 🙂

So on to my challenge card. I opted to ink up a sentiment to let a friend know how amazing they are:

{Girly you Rock!}
Stamps: Signature Greetings (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Rich Cocoa (Memento)
Cardstock: Kraft, Vintage Cream (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Butterfly Die, Dark Chocolate Button, Cream Button Twine (Papertrey Ink)/Striped Washi Tape (MT Tapes)

I’ve got a thing for washi tape at the moment; I’m sure it’s just a phase but for now, everything gets covered in the stuff – including my die cuts! 🙂
And now it’s over to you! Check out the challenge rules here. Entries close at 9am on Monday, October 29th when we will draw our winners.

To celebrate our launch the randomly-drawn winner will receive this little bundle of PTI goodies:

Fly Away Stamp Set, Heart-2-Heart Stamp Set & die, Simply Chartreuse & Melon Berry Ribbons, Victorian Lace Border Die, Six Sheets of Distressed Dots papers and a selection of cardstock.

Finally, we had some problems with our email address so now have a new one – if you haven’t had a response from an email you sent to our old address we are very sorry, please email us at apassionforpapertrey@gmail.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

Happy stamping everyone!
