Challenge: Be Inspired!

Ho, Ho, Ho! And welcome to a new (slightly later than planned!) challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey!

Please accept my biggest apologies for the delay in introducing our new challenge; it’s my (Aimes here), turn to host it and we’re in the process of moving house. Needless to say, chaos surrounds me and we have no Internet access until next Monday (how will I cope?!)

I’ll be back next week with the winners of our last challenge but for now, let’s focus on the new challenge shall we? So – with it being a super busy time of the year, we wanted to give you a challenge that’s super easy to play along with. Simply be inspired by the picture below and get creative! 🙂A CollectionPicture Source: A Creative Mint

I’ll share my project with you once we get our broadband set up in our new place this week, but for the meantime Hurrah for broadband! I can now share how this pic inspired my Christmas wrapping:

I was inspired by the twine, the peg and the kraft/red colour combo.

Now feast your eyes on what my gorgeous partners in PTI  crime whipped up for ya!

Over to Caryn:

I think Aimes must have been thinking of me when she picked the inspiration photo for this challenge because it couldn’t be more up my street!  I naturally went for a Christmas theme with my card and am happy to have another one ticked off my list!  I dusted off my Background Basics: Christmas set for the “Night Before Christmas” text and went to town with a few dies and some felt!

Challenge – Wonderful Wildlife

Greetings all and welcome to another challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey!

So after a long winter spring is finally here! We think one of the most beautiful things about spring is seeing nature emerge from the depths of winter – just looking out the window I can see tulips blossoming, and birds making their nests. So for this challenge we’d like you to join us in taking inspiration for our creativity from wildlife – be it flowers, trees, leaves, butterflies, birds…. the list is endless!!

Looking through my stamps I realised I had never inked up the fern and dragonfly images from the Masculine Motifs set, so I soon remedied that using a Hawai’in Shores and Simply Chartreuse colour combo – I know we waited a while for the new PTI inks but I still smile when they stamp out so beautifully!

Card details: (PTI unless otherwise stated)
Stamps: Masculine Motifs/Fillable Frames 1
Ink: Hawai’in Shores/Smokey Grey/Simply Chartreuse
Card: Stamper’s Select White/Hawai’in Shores
Other: Gems (Hero Arts)/Fillable Frames 1 Die

Over to Caryn:

I have rediscovered my love of acetate recently so found myself reaching for it again on this card. I thought it added to the light and airy feel with those butterflies fluttering around! I love this colour combo – it’s one I always associate with Betsy Veldman – my idol!! I struggled to fit a sentiment on to this card but in the end thought it would look cute with a teeny “Happy Birthday” from Wonderfully Whimsical (the perfect fit!).

{Recipe}
Stamps: Butterfly Dreams, Wonderfully Whimsical

CS: Raspberry Fizz, Aqua Mist, Ripe Avocado, Stampers Select
Ink: Hawaiian Shores, Raspberry Fizz, Fresh Snow
Dies: Clouds, Butterfly Dreams, Heart Border.
Other: Acetate

Aimes is a bit snowed under with work at the moment but might pop later this week with her creation – you know our Aimes – it will be worth the wait!!

“Wait up! I’m here, I’m here! Better late than never, eh?!

Card Deets: Stamps – Happy Trails (Papertrey Ink)/Card – Soft Stone, Aqua Mist, Vellum Card (Papertrey Ink)/Ink – Versamark (Tsukineko), Hawaiian Shores (Papertrey Ink), London Fog (Memento)/Accessories – Happy Trails Die (Papertrey Ink) H2O Paints (Luminere), Striped Ribbon (May Arts) Gem

For our challenge I couldn’t resist inking up the set, Happy Trails and using the coordinating dragonfly die. I’m sorry that the lighting on my picture makes the sentiment difficult to read and doesn’t give do the dragonfly much justice either: it sparkles so much more IRL!”

And what’s the prize this time?! Well, one randomly selected winner will receive this sweet set from Papertrey:

Challenge: Design Team Inspiration

Hello folks and welcome to a brand shiny new challenge here on the A Passion for Papertrey Blog.  It was fun to have an anything goes challenge last time and we enjoyed a record number of entries too.

Our new challenge for the next fortnight is to find a card or project created by one of the amazing Papertrey Ink DT members and let it inspire you to create something from it.  It doesn’t have to a direct case of the card or project but we do want to see how it inspired you.  With such awesome talent to choose from I can’t wait to see what gems you all come up with.

The hardest part about this challenge is picking just one talented lady to emulate – unles you want to try them all – no limit to how many times you enter!!!  I chose the queen of PTI herself, Nichole Heady.  She created this card back during the May 2011 release and I loved the simplicity of it.

And here is the card I was inspired to make:

{Recipe}

Stamps: Damask Designs, Butterfly Dreams
Card: White, Kraft
Ink: Versamark, Scarlet Jewel, Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Other: Black fineliner, Gems, Butterfly die

Over to Aimes:
The Papertrey Ink DT member I chose to be inspired by is Lisa Johnson. I’ve always been a fan of Lisa Johnson’s work – in both her creations and the stamps sets she’s designed!

After admiring her gallery, I finally decided upon this card as my inspiration point:

I know. I’m a sucker for green 🙂
And here’s my card:

I kinda stuck to the layout and colours but just mixed up the stamp sets a bit (gave me the perfect excuse to ink up some new PTI stash *wink*)

Card Deets

Stamps: Peaceful Garden, Iconic Images (Sentiment)
Ink: Versamark/Rich Cocoa (Memento)

Over to Kate:…”If I ever need inspiration I head straight for one DT member  – Maile Belles. I love everything about her style and she never fails to inspire me. This is the card I chose:

And here is my take on it:

Card Details:
Stamps: Aloha
Card: Vintage Cream/Dark Chocolate
Ink: Memento black, Dark Chocolate
Other: Vine Die, Argyle Impression Plate, Copic Sketch Markers, Corner Chomper

And the prize this time?  A cute little Fruit Fusion: Cherries stamp set!

Here are the deets

* All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify (please state what is PTI as sometimes it’s hard to see :D)

* All entries must be newly created (well, new to Blogland anyways!).  Please don’t link to old posts that might happen to fit the brief of the challenge!!

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post. Please leave the correct URL for your entry post and not just your generic blog address! If you’re having problems then just leave a comment with a link to your post featuring the project on your blog or online gallery.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with – wonder who the most cased design team member will be!

"Piece out, man"!!

Geddit? Piece, peace??? Ok, it’s tenuous but a link all the same to our lovely new challenge which is to use paper piecing in your project. I love to do paper piecing but it can be time-consuming. I have to say though the result is usually worth it and PTI have loads of fabulous sets that lend themselves beautifully to this technique.
For my sample I chose a set that hasn’t seen much love in a long time (hides head in shame). I love this cute little set though – it was among the first I bought. I have stamped it onto my favourite PTI paper too – the polka dot one from the Raspberry Fizz collection – yum. The sentiment is also from the Scattered Showers set.

Caryn

Recipe
{Wishing You Sunshine}
Stamps: Scattered Showers, Background Basics: Hearts (Papertrey Ink), Legder Stamp (Hero Arts)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento) Versamark, Enchanted Evening (Papertrey Ink)
Cardstock: Enchanted Evening, Kraft (Papertrey Ink)
Patterned Paper: Raspberry Fizz collection (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories:Raspberry Fizz twill ribbon/, Medium scallop border die (Papertrey Ink)

Over to Aimes:
Believe it or not, I don’t actually own that many PTI sets that scream out, “Paper-piece me, girly!” but it is a technique that I seriously love when I’ve got the patience to do it, and it’s a great way to use those diddy scraps you’ve been hoarding too *wink*

So after rooting through some of my sets, I came across the solid outline stamp of a butterfly from Butterfly Dreams; rooted through my Bitty Dots DP Scrap bag (yes, I am an organised, verging-on-OCD kinda gal when it comes to scraps!) and got busy:

As you can hopefully tell, I wasn’t happy with just a pinky, dotty butterfly: I wanted a shiny, super glittery butterfly instead. Cue a good dollop of the Glossy Accents and glitter for a blingin’ butterfly so bright it’d blind ya LOL!

Gotta love me some super-shiny-shimmery goodness 🙂

Card Deets
{Happy Birthday}
Stamps: Butterfly Dreams, Birthday Bash Sentiments (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento) Versamark
Cardstock: Enchanted Evening (Papertrey Ink)

Accessories: Simply Chartreuse Felt, Eyelet Border Die, Simply Chartreuse Button (Papertrey Ink)/Cuttlebug/Circle Nestability (Spellbinders)/Glossy Accents (Ranger)/Prisma Glitter/Chompy (Corner Chomper – We R Memory Keepers)

Over to Kate: “The minute I thought about this challenge I reached for my On My Couch set, and paper pieced the sofa with one of the papers from Turning a New Leaf – then added some shading with a copic marker to make it add a bit of dimension. A simple, CAS card for a special friend!”

Recipe:
Stamps – On My Couch/On My Couch Additions
Ink – Memento black
Card – Vintage Cream/Dark Chocolate
Paper – Turning a New Leaf
Dies – Mat Stack 5/Ric-Rak

So what’s on offer this time round for all you lovely challengees?? It’s this……..

Please leave the correct URL for your entry post and not just your generic blog address! * Worldwide entries are more than welcome to share the inspiration and can be in with a chance of being a Top 3 PTI Passionista, but unfortunately prizes can only be shipped within Europe!

Scrapalicious!

Ready for a new challenge?! Well we wanna see what you can do with your scraps. Yup, that’s right – you’ve been saving them forever, promising yourself that you’d use them for something and now is your chance. The moment to let those scraps shine! LOL!

Kate is off for a while dancing in Cuba. (No, seriously! She is! Lucky gal…hope she brings some sunshine and warmth back with her when she returns!) So that leaves Caryn, Bev and myself for this challenge.

I’ll confess that although I’m a messy crafter, I’m meticulously organised when it comes to scraps. I have card, patterned paper and ribbon all in separate bags divided by colour. I’ll scrimp and save the tiniest scraps of ribbon and that’s what I focused on for this challenge.

Ribbon can be tricky – it frays, you need long strips to tie the prettiest of bows with it, so what do you do with the little bits that you’re left over with? Well create your very own banner of course! I was inspired by the new PTI release and those banners in particular – *drool*

Card Deets
{It’s a Celebration}
Stamps: Fancy Flourishes, Birthday Bash Sentiments (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Antique Linen (Distress Ink)/Rich Cocoa (Memento)
Cardstock: Fine Linen (Papertrey Ink)
Patterned Paper: Library Ledger Collection (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Grosgrain Ribbon Scraps, Jute Ribbon Twine

I love that you could take this idea and create custom banners for any occasion! Just think, polka dots, satin, bitty dots or whatever colours you fancy – the possibilities are endless!

Over to Caryn:
Firstly, can I just say I LOVED this challenge! I have a drawer overflowing with the tiniest little scraps of PTI “waste” (gasp – can I say that??) and found it SOO liberating to make a use of some of those abandoned little treasures! Other than the base card which is Rustic Cream all the other bits and bobs came out of the scrap drawer. I already had the stamped frame and scallop border in there so that was my starting point – everything else just fell into place and I am right chuffed with the end result!

Now over to our lovely November featured stamper, Bev:
Like many crafters I find it hard to throw away scraps! I often die cut more shapes than I need when making a project and the ones I don’t use end up in a box to use on a later project. Same goes for ribbon scraps, the little pieces after making a bow end up in the same box. I have to say it’s not very often I go to the box to see what’s in there! It’s usually when I am faced with a challenge like this one that I go to the box!

After perusing Nichole’s blog this morning the card she had made with the Hibiscus Burst & Scarlet Jewel colour combo jumped out at me as a fantastic colour combo and a combo I’d never attempted. I had a look in my now called ‘scrapilicious’ box and found these:

A while ago I was on a butterfly embellishment kick after seeing them on Dawn McVey’s blog! I’d die cut loads of butterflies in an array of colours. The pink one using the Butterfly Dreams stamps and die was one I’d made for a set of Christening cards I’d made for a friend.

I used Nichole’s card LO changing it slightly!

So have we tempted to you go rooting through your scraps?! I hope so! Remember that it doesn’t have to be a card you create for your own entry – any paper-crafting project will count! And just to tempt you a bit more, up for grabs this fortnight for one randomly picked participant is this super sweet Fillable Frames stamp set #4:

Ready to play along? Here are those all important deets:
* All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify (please state what is PTI as sometimes for us it’s hard to tell :D)

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post. Please leave the correct URL for your entry post and not just your generic blog address! If you’re having problems then just leave a comment with a link to your post featuring the project on your blog or online gallery.

* Worldwide entries are more than welcome to share the inspiration and can be in with a chance of being a Top 3 PTI Passionista, but unfortunately prizes can only be shipped within Europe!

* Challenge closes on Monday, November 29th 2010 at 9.00am GMT

* As well as a randomly picked winner, we’ll select the top three creations we like the most and feature them on the Blog. The top three PTI Passionistas will have chance to display a Top 3 Passionista Blinkie on their own blog.

So don’t delay – root through your scraps today and turn something bland into something beautiful!

Happy Monday, peeps! I hope the weekend was a goody for ya! I can’t say we did anything special; sometimes those are the kinda weekends I like the best KWIM?!

Today I’m popping by to share some hugs with y’all…

This is another li’l card (what can I say, I’m hooked on them!) and measures a sweet 2.75 x 3.5 in size. My piccy doesn’t capture it, but that butterfly is absolutely smothered in Glossy Accents *grin*

I’m definitely a believer that a hug is good for you and cheers anyone up. Seeing as I’m definitely not a Monday person, I say, bring ’em on in both phsyical and card form! LOL!

Challenge: Polka Dots!

Hello and welcome to another challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey! Today we have a special treat for you thanks to the generosity of the lovely Beverley who has so very sweetly donated a very special Papertrey Ink stamp set for us to offer as a prize. Do you recognise this set..:

…. if you don’t it is the 2010 ‘Round and Round’ PTI Anniversary set, which cannot be bought and is the prize for this fortnight’s challenge! Thank you so much Beverley!

And there are two good reasons for us to be offering this fabulous prize this week – the first is that Aimes and I are celebrating our first anniversary lol!!! It’s a year ago that Aimes joined A Passion for Papertrey, and I couldn’t ask for a more fabulous friend to be my partner in crime on the blog!

The second reason is to say thank you to all our wonderful readers and supporters – we are always overwhelmed with the response to our challenges and our posts. Thank you all for your support, and for sharing our passion for all things Papertrey!

So onto the challenge!! This time we’re going all dotty, and asking you to make a card or other papercrafting project that features polka dots… because we all love cute polka dots don’t we?! You could use your polka dot stamps, papers, ribbons, or if you don’t have any of those, come up with an original idea for incorporating them into your project!

I have to say I used a few dotty PTI products on my sample!….polka dot stamps, ribbon and papers!

Recipe:
Stamps” Baby Button Bits/Polka Dot Basics
Card: Stamper’s Select White/Pure Poppy/Aqua Mist
Paper: Bitty Dot Basics
Ink: Aqua Mist
Other: Copic Sketch Markers/Pure Poppy button/Pure Poppy Swiss Dots ribbon/Rik Rak die/Circle Nestabilities

Over to Aimes:
“OK, so I know you’re probably expecting me to break out my Polka Dots II set for this challenge, or maybe to use that sweet polka dot chair/couch from On My Couch but I wanted to incorporate polka dots a little less predictably for me this time…”

Card Deets
{Happy Anniversary}
Stamps: Daily Designs/Round & Round Ink: Pure poppy Cardstock: Stamper’s Select White/Kraft Paper: Beautiful Blooms DP Accessories: Fresh Snow Twill Ribbon/Martha Stewart Border Punch/Corner Rounder/White Gel Pen

And here’s Caryn as our featured stamper for August, goin‘ a little Polka Dot Crazy on this little number:

“I have used a Kraft card base and then layered up the panel with Rustic Cream card (embossed with Swiss Dots cuttlebug folder), Kraft coloured paper from Dotty Biscotti and then the top layer is a piece of Spring Moss card. Everything has been roughed up a bit with my new toy – my SU distresser thingy and then I’ve run the PTI distress ink (the lighter one!) around the edge of it all. The butterflies (Butterfly Dreams) and sentiment (from Everyday Classics) have been stamped in Raspberry Fizz and then it’s all finished off with a bit of Raspberry Fizz twill.

Here are all the deets:

All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post.

* Challenge closes on Monday, Sept 6th 2010 at 9.00am GMT
