Challenge: Inspired by Nature!

Hello peeps and welcome to a new challenge here at A Passion for Papertrey.  Welcome, and if you’re new to this blog then we are three crafty card makers who share a love of Papertey Ink – an American paper crafting company known for their unique stamp designs and co-ordinating colour products.  This blog offers fortnightly challenges with a different theme each time and all we ask is your entry should feature at least one Papertrey Ink product.  We will randomly draw a winner for each challenge and send that lucky person a $5 gift certificate for PTI!  Simples!

So this week we want to see your nature-inspired creations.  Now how easy could that be?  Nature could be flowers, butterflies (and other creepy crawlies!), leaves, animals etc, etc!

Here’s what we came up with:

Caryn:  One of my favourite colour combos of all time is Pure Poppy and Aqua Mist.  This gave me the starting point for my card and so I went for a set I haven’t used in a long time – it was long overdue a dusting off!  Althought I used Blooming Button Bits – I didn’t actually use any buttons!  I went for flower heads from Beautiful Blooms instead!!

{Have a Fabulous Day}
Stamps: Blooming Button Button Bits, Beautiful Blooms (PTI), Just Fabulous (Clearly Besotted)
Ink: Tide Pool (Hero Arts), Pure Poppy, True Black, Scarlet Jewel (PTI)
Cardstock: Stampers Select White, Pure Popy, Patterned Paper pack (Aqua Mist)
Other:
Washi tape (??), Wink of Stella Clear brush pen

Here’s Kate: “My home office is a conservatory that opens out onto my garden, and at the moment it’s so lovely to listen to the birds sing and see them in the garden. So I was totally inspired to make a card with birds on it! I needed to whip up a wedding card for a friend so I took the ‘tie the knot’ theme literally and gave the knot to my pair of love birds! (Apologies again for the poor image quality, my camera is still at the camera hospital so I’m using a very poor substitute!)

Aimes will be along in the next day or two to share her card as she’s currently snowed under with paperwork at school !

If you’re joining us for the first time please take a wee minute to read the blog guidelines and when you’re ready, share you fabulous work with us in the linky tool below!!  The challenge is open for the next two weeks and closes on 3rd June 2013.

Can’t wait to see how nature inspires you!

Reverse Masking – Make It Monday challenge.

Don’t know about you but when Nichole launched her new  “Make It Mondays” challenge I was full of good intentions and thought I’d be trying out the techniques every week.  Well, it’s now at Week #20 and I have entered it a grand total of …..once!  So, without further ado, here is my second go at a MIM Challenge.  This week it’s “Reverse Masking” and all the deets are HERE.

I die cut the middle sized star from the Stars die set and used it to mask an outline into which I stamped one of the paint-splattery-type stamps from Grunge Me in Pure Poppy, Hawaiian Shores and Summer Sunrise.  The Happy Birthday is from Enjoy The Ride, the “6” is from Banner Builder and “Today” is selectively stamped from the Celebrate Today stamp in Mega Mixed Messages.

Right, off for a cuppa!

Challenge: Royal Wedding Celebration

Hello there and welcome to a new challenge!

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few months, you’ll know that we have a very special royal event on the horizon….the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. We love a good royal shindig here on A Passion for Papertrey (any excuse to have a party!) and so this fortnight’s challenge is focusing on the wedding theme.

Now you don’t have to go royal for the challenge: anything wedding related will qualify. I, however, went a bit overboard-patriotic with my card:

Card Deets {Congratulations}
Stamps: Love Birds (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black, London Fog (Memento)/Versamark
Cardstock: Enchanted Evening/Stamper’s Select White/Pure Poppy
Accessories: Detail White EP (Stampendous)/ Birdcage Die (Papertrey Ink)

I’m not quite sure who I could send this card to apart from the happy couple to be…..well if Kate bags Prince Harry (is he too young, Kate?!) then I’ll send it the them LOL!

And now over to Caryn..
Firstly, sorry for not being able to play along with the last challenge. My life has been just a tad hectic over the past couple of months but I am catching up with myself a wee bit now and managed to get my card made in plenty of time for this new challenge. With the revival of the much loved celebration street parties for the Royal Wedding (I vividly remember the Silver Jubilee one as a child) I thought I’d reflect this in my card so I reached straight for my Banner Builder stamps and dies. I used Pure Poppy and a colorbox chalk eye ink (Azure) for the flags and coloured the car (Enjoy The Ride) stamped in Smokey Shadow with grey ProMarkers. I glazed the window of the car with Crystal Effects and added a few wee gems for glitz.

So have you got plans for the bonus bank holiday? Whatever you’re up to hope you have a great time.

Recipe:
Stamps: Enjoy The Ride, Banner Builder (PTI), Star Background (Hero Arts)
Card: Kraft, Spring Rain, Vintage Cream,
Ink: Pure Poppy, Smokey Shadow (PTI), Azure (Colorbox), Versamark
Other: Banner Builder Dies (PTI), Gems, Ribbon

And here’s Kate: “So just to be different I’ve shunned red, white and blue and Royal Wedding influences and instead opted for a simple (and I hope, elegant!) monochromatic card – remember the challenge is for any wedding cards, not just one for Wills and Kate!”

Recipe:
Stamps: Big & Bold Wishes
Ink: Memento Black
Card: Stamper’s Select White/Basic Black
Dies: Nestabilities Labels 2
Other: adhesive gems (Hero Arts)/White Grosgrain ribbon

Finally, as our featured stamper for April, Claire has this super pretty wedding card to share with us:

We hope you’ll wanna join in the wedding celebrations with us! Up for grabs for one randomly selected peep will be….

One of every design of the Beautiful Blooms DP collection (6 sheets in total)

And….

A foot of ribbon in each of the coordinating colours (Pure Poppy, Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse & True Black)

Ready to party? Here are the deets:

* All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify (please state what is PTI as sometimes for us it’s hard to tell :D)

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post (be aware that we’ve had a few niggles with it!). Right then, we’re off to get our outfits and hats sorted *wink*

Challenge – Forever Friends

So it’s time to set another challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey – it comes round quickly doesn’t it?!

Before we get to the challenge I wanted to share a photo with you. It’s not often that Aimes and I get to meet up in person, but this past weekend was one such occasion! We met up with our blogging buddies (and fellow PTI fans!) Steph and Caryn for a girlie weekend – shopping, cocktails, and Eclipse…. such a fun weekend!

So here we are, the two Passion for Papertrey gals, in matching outfits no less!! (We were trying the same top on!)

With our weekend in mind, we thought we’d ask you to think about your special friends and make a card for one of them. There is something so special about receiving a card from a friend for no other reason than they are thinking of you! So our challenge is to create a friendship card, using at least one Papertrey Ink product.
For mine I used the super adorable Enjoy the Ride set, and matching die. I paper pieced part of the cars (very flower power don’t you think!) with the gorgeous Beautiful Blooms papers, and coloured the rest with Copics. I’m in love with these cars!!

Recipe:

Stamps: Enjoy the Ride, Friends til the End
Ink: Memento black
Card: Stamper’s Select White/Hawaiin Shores/Pure PoppyPapers: Beautiful Blooms
Other: Enjoy the Ride die/Rik Rack die/Copic Sketch markers

Over to Aimes:
“Seemed kinda fitting to have a friendship theme for our challenge this fortnight seeing as Kate and I had spent a fabulous girlie weekend together along with our other fabulous crafty friends, Caryn and Steph! For my sample, I decided to get comfy with my On My Couch set and On My Couch Additions. I just luuuuuurve those sets to play with; in fact I had so much fun that I made not one card, but two! Before you think I have some XL size stamps, these cards are a sweet lil’ 2.5 x 4.25 inches big! I went for a subtle chair this time, stamped with Versamark which allowed me to stamp my sentiment over the top. The sentiment was orginally a long line of text but I just inked up each word at a time to create the lines of text.

I love these little cards – you use way less supplies on ’em with the added bonus that if you chop a PTI envie in half and stitch/glue the open sides together you’ll create an envie for each card outta just the one envie! Just gotta love that!”

Once again our randomly drawn winner will receive this fabulous stamp set, Fly Away:

Are you ready to play along?! Here’s the deets:

* All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post. If you’re having problems then just leave a comment with a link to your post featuring the project on your blog or online gallery.

* Worldwide entries are more than welcome to share the inspiration and can be in with a chance of being a Top 3 PTI Passionista, but unfortunately prizes can only be shipped within Europe!

* Challenge closes on Monday, August 9th 2010 at 9.00am GMT

* A winner will be chosen at random to receive some PTI goodies! In addition to this, we’ll select the top three creations we like the most and feature them on the Blog. The top three PTI Passionistas will have chance to display a Top 3 Passionista Blinkie on their own blog.

Have fun!!

One Layer Challenge

Welcome to another challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey! This time we’re going to strip it back and ask you to make a one layer card. I’m a huge fan of one layer cards, but they can be a challenge can’t they?!

It can be easy to keep adding layers and embellishments but the art of one layer cards is keeping it simple which is often easier said than done! Remember you can use embellishments on your project but there must only be one layer 🙂

There are some real advantages to one layer cards – they’re super quick to make, cheap to send, easy to mass produce if needed and don’t use too many supplies. Have I tempted you to join in yet?!

For my sample I decided to go for a circle card, and that super cute car from the Enjoy the Ride set. I wanted a clean and simple design so simply stamped the car, coloured it with Copics and a white gel pen, and drew a circle around it to add a border. A touch of sponging around the edges with some Distress Ink and I was done!

Recipe:
Stamps: Enjoy the Ride
Card: Kraft
Ink: Memento/Antique Linen Distress Ink
Other: Copic Sketch Markers/White Gel Pen/Circle Nestabilities

Over to Aimes:
Eeek! One layer!?!?! Seriously?! Well Kate pointed out that since I am soooooooo busy at the moment and already behind on the PTI blog schedule, this should be a quickie card for me to make – nice try Kate, but not much can sweeten this challenge for me LOL!

So after some seriously failed attempts, here’s what I came up with:

…and I’m still not totally satisfied but if you saw my failed attempts you’d be impressed with this one!

Card Recipe
Stamps: Turning a New Leaf/Daily Designs Sentiments
Ink: Versamark/Dark Chocolate
Card: Lemon Tart
Accessories: White Gel Pen/Corner Rounder/Dark Chocolate Twill

And here is our June Featured Stamper, Chris:

“I think that one layer cards are a real challenge – so often a case of right first time as they can be very unforgiving! For my card I used the Boards and Beams set – I love this set as you can dress it up or down depending on the occasion and the Christmas additions (Home for the Holidays) with the snow and wreaths make beautiful cards.

I simply stamped the images in Black memento ink onto Stampers Select white cardstock and coloured them in with Copic markers. I find it useful to draw a fine pencil line across my card so I can line up the house and fences and it’s easily removed after. I masked the fences to try and stamp the trees at slightly different heights.

The only drawback with using Copic markers on Stampers Select card is that they do bleed though to the other side – not great for a one layer card! I put a piece of pretty paper on the inside to cover it up – I hope that is ok for the challenge!”

Fancy challenging yourself to creating a ‘One-Layer Wonder?’
