Challenge: ‘Knock on Wood’

Welcome to a fabby new challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey! I hope you can join us as we hit on a trend that is wood/woodgrain. Now don’t go thinking that just because you don’t own any wood-patterned stamps or woodgrain impression plate that you can’t play along – we just wanna see where those words take you and think outside the box if you have to!

For me, my brain is on vacation mode, so I took the whole wood-thing literally:

Peg Deets

Stamps: Background Basics: Sheet Music (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Accessories: Pegs, Acrylic Paint (Home Supply)

Yup I literally stamped on wood 🙂

These sweet pegs were so easy to create: simply covered them in white acrylic paint and once dry, stamped sheet music on to them (note: steady hand required for stamping on to pegs!)

Over to Kate:
“Well the only ‘wood’ style stamp I have it the Woodgrain background set, and as I had to make a New Home card for my best friend I die cut a red ‘wooden’ house! Then, as I was rummaging through my dies, I came across the Tiny Envelope die….unused!! Oh dear. So I swiftly corrected that oversight, and can I say how cute the little envelope is!”

Card Details:
Stamps: Background Basics: Woodgrain/Mega Mixed Messages
Ink: Pure Poppy/Basic Black
Card: Stamper’s Select White/Kraft
Other: Tiny Envelope Die/Sending You Die/ Love Lives Here Die/Linen Impression Plate

Over to Caryn:
Well rather than go for the woodgrain stamps I decided to use my woodgrain impression plate (my favourite). After die cutting and stamping the fairy castle from Little Princess I added some glittery accents and then ran it through the bigshot to give it a wooden appearance might be a little hard

to see it on the card actually – but it’s there, promise!). I layered it over one of the snowflake die cuts as I thought the Aqua Mist and white colour scheme reminded me a wee bit of the snow queen’s palace!!

{Card Recipe}
Happy Birthday Princess
Stamps: Little Princess, Think Big Favourites #13, Fancy Flourishes.
Ink: Aqua Mist, Smokey Shadow
CS: Stampers Select White, Aqua Mist pattern paper (gingham)
Dies: Little Princess, snowflakes, woodgrain impression plate.

Challenge: Royal Wedding Celebration

Hello there and welcome to a new challenge!

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few months, you’ll know that we have a very special royal event on the horizon….the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. We love a good royal shindig here on A Passion for Papertrey (any excuse to have a party!) and so this fortnight’s challenge is focusing on the wedding theme.

Now you don’t have to go royal for the challenge: anything wedding related will qualify. I, however, went a bit overboard-patriotic with my card:

Card Deets {Congratulations}
Stamps: Love Birds (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black, London Fog (Memento)/Versamark
Cardstock: Enchanted Evening/Stamper’s Select White/Pure Poppy
Accessories: Detail White EP (Stampendous)/ Birdcage Die (Papertrey Ink)

I’m not quite sure who I could send this card to apart from the happy couple to be…..well if Kate bags Prince Harry (is he too young, Kate?!) then I’ll send it the them LOL!

And now over to Caryn..
Firstly, sorry for not being able to play along with the last challenge. My life has been just a tad hectic over the past couple of months but I am catching up with myself a wee bit now and managed to get my card made in plenty of time for this new challenge. With the revival of the much loved celebration street parties for the Royal Wedding (I vividly remember the Silver Jubilee one as a child) I thought I’d reflect this in my card so I reached straight for my Banner Builder stamps and dies. I used Pure Poppy and a colorbox chalk eye ink (Azure) for the flags and coloured the car (Enjoy The Ride) stamped in Smokey Shadow with grey ProMarkers. I glazed the window of the car with Crystal Effects and added a few wee gems for glitz.

So have you got plans for the bonus bank holiday? Whatever you’re up to hope you have a great time.

Recipe:
Stamps: Enjoy The Ride, Banner Builder (PTI), Star Background (Hero Arts)
Card: Kraft, Spring Rain, Vintage Cream,
Ink: Pure Poppy, Smokey Shadow (PTI), Azure (Colorbox), Versamark
Other: Banner Builder Dies (PTI), Gems, Ribbon

And here’s Kate: “So just to be different I’ve shunned red, white and blue and Royal Wedding influences and instead opted for a simple (and I hope, elegant!) monochromatic card – remember the challenge is for any wedding cards, not just one for Wills and Kate!”

Recipe:
Stamps: Big & Bold Wishes
Ink: Memento Black
Card: Stamper’s Select White/Basic Black
Dies: Nestabilities Labels 2
Other: adhesive gems (Hero Arts)/White Grosgrain ribbon

Finally, as our featured stamper for April, Claire has this super pretty wedding card to share with us:

We hope you’ll wanna join in the wedding celebrations with us! Up for grabs for one randomly selected peep will be….

One of every design of the Beautiful Blooms DP collection (6 sheets in total)

And….

A foot of ribbon in each of the coordinating colours (Pure Poppy, Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse & True Black)

Ready to party? Here are the deets:

* All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify (please state what is PTI as sometimes for us it’s hard to tell :D)

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post (be aware that we’ve had a few niggles with it!). Please leave the correct URL for your entry post and not just your generic blog address! If you’re having problems then just leave a comment with a link to your post featuring the project on your blog or online gallery.

* Worldwide entries are more than welcome to share the inspiration and can be in with a chance of being a Top 3 PTI Passionista, but unfortunately prizes can only be shipped within Europe!

* Challenge closes on Monday, May 2nd 2011 at 9.00am GMT

* As well as a randomly picked winner, we’ll select the top three creations we like the most and feature them on the Blog. The top three PTI Passionistas will have chance to display a Top 3 Passionista Blinkie on their own blog.

Right then, we’re off to get our outfits and hats sorted *wink*

Tag – you’re it!

Firstly apologies that our linky thingy was no longer available for you peeps cutting it close to our deadline for the last challenge. Thanks for leaving your links in the comments section for us! We do know of the extra entries that were entered after it decided to be naughty don’t worry, you’ll be included when we draw a winner and decide on our Top 3 🙂

How about we start over again with a new challenge and hopefully with a linky tool that works (fingers crossed!)?! Sounds like a fun idea to me! So for this fortnight’s challenge we wanna see your fabulous takes on gift tags!

I fancied making a tag suitable for any one of the guys in my family (both young and old!) and also wanted to show you that you can play Tag too even if you don’t have a tag-shaped die:

I simply used the Mat Stack 1 Die, punched a hole and set an eyelet in the top – voila! A tag! It actually felt good to use one of the many thousands of eyelets I’ve hoarded from an era when they were popular LOL! Oooh and a bit of masking on my “Dude You Rock!” sentiment stamp provides the shortened sentiment and gives even more value for money on a sweet stamp 😀

Tag Deets
{You Rock}
Stamps: Fancy Flourishes, Star Prints, Signature Greetings (Papertrey Ink)
Cardstock: Ocean Tides
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)/Versamark
Patterned Paper: Pure Poppy Bitty Box Basics
Accessories: True Black Vintage Button, Jute Ribbon Twine

And now over to Caryn….

Hey everyone, are you all enjoying the anniversary celebrations so far on Nichole’s blog? Yesterday there was a free download of some cute tags created by each of PTI’s stamp designers – did you get it?? Well, I urge you to go grab it, there’s some gorgeous images on there, one of which I have used here on my tag. This one is from Heather Nichols. Kate and Aimes will probably be rolling their eyes at me (wink) for using Pure Poppy again but it literally goes with just about everything (not sure about Melon Berry – haven’t tried that combo….). I have used Polka Dot Basics II and embossed it with clear powder on the background and coloured the flower on the image in with a red ProMarker as the original is Melon Berry and I wanted it red!!

And here’s a close up!

{Card recipe}
Free anniversary download
Stamps: Polka Dot Basics II, Banner Builder
Cardstock: Spring Moss, Pure Poppy.
Ink: Pure Poppy
Other: Pure Poppy dating dots ribbon, Pure Poppy bakers twine, Promarker

Here’s Kate:

For my tags I played around with one of my favourite colour combos – kraft and aqua mist – some new dies and some felt.

All the PTI dies make tag-making so fun!!

These parcels are going to two very special ladies who deserve a special tag, and I’m definitely going to be making more tags in the future!

Finally, as our featured stamper for February, here’s Imke’s fabulous tag:

I think you’ll agree that this one amazing tag!

So ready to play ‘Tag’?! I hope so! Up for grabs for one randomly selected peep will be this Fillable Frames #11 stamp set:

Perfectly Pretty Pearls

Hi, Caryn here.

Firstly – sorry this is appearing a bit late – I’ve been suffering a wee bit with the lurgy over the last few days and thought we still had another week to run on our last challenge!! Oops! Luckily I was organised enough to have my card made so without further ado, here we are with our new challenge Pretty Pearls. As usual you can interpret this as you wish but we want to see you using pearls in some way on your creation (which must incorporate at least one Papertrey Ink product).

I am still in Christmas card-making mode at the moment so my card is another festive one! I used my beloved Peaceful Poinsettia set along with Big and Bold Holiday Wishes. The image and sentiment have been stamped in Versamark and then embossed in white filligree powder. I am loving this colour combo of Pure Poppy, Aqua Mist and Kraft – loads of my cards this year have used it! Caryn x

Recipe:
Stamps: Peaceful Poinsettia/Big and Bold Holiday Wishes
Ink: Versamark
Card: Kraft/ Aqua Mist/Pure Poppy/Spring Moss
Other: White Filligree embossong powder/Martha Stewart Edge punch/adhesive pearls and gem/Nestabilities: Lacy Circles and Standard Circles

Here’s Kate:
“My mum asked me to make some cards for her this Christmas and for two of the three designs I used the Wreath for All Seasons set, I can see this becoming one of my most-used PTI sets! The gaps in the wreath design just calls out for some pearly berries!”

Here’s a close up of the pearls:

I’d better make a start on my own cards now!

Recipe:
Stamps: Wreath for All Seasons/2010 Holiday Tags
Ink: Purely Pomegranite (SU), Versafine Black
Card: Vintage Cream/Purely Pomegranite (SU)
Other: Cuttlebug embossing folder/Purely Pomegranite ribbon (SU)/Adhesive Pearls/Rustic Twine/Mat Stack 4 die.

Over to Aimes
“OK. So I am in the middle of a huge panic. Breathe, Aimes. Breathe! It’s only 11 days until Christmas and I’m still making Christmas cards! *Argh!* Still, I like to tell myself it’s because I’m at my ‘most creative’ when I’m under more pressure – ha!

So here is my ‘pearly’ creation:

I’ve kinda cheated – hope you’ll forgive me. I know you’ve seen this card layout before (for the last challenge) and I’m using it again for my example for this challenge. I think the change of colours and the pearly touches certainly make it different from my other two….well it’s more girly anyways!”

Card Deets
{We Wish you a Merry Christmas}
Stamps: Holiday Signature Greetings, Fancy Flourishes (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Fresh Snow (Papertrey Ink)
Cardstock: Spring Rain, Sweet Blush, White Shimmer Cardstock (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Cuttlebug, Snowflake Die (Provocraft)/Nestabilities/Fresh Snow Satin Ribbon and Spring Rain Button (Papertrey Ink)/Pearls (Hero Arts)/’Chompy‘ (Corner Chomper!)

As our featured stamper for December, here’s Aga’s fabulous take on the challenge:

“I’ve always been a fan of red berries on Christmas cards. There’s something so pretty about them. To create my card I used the leaves from the Blooming Button Bits set with white embossing powder and red pearls. Don’t they look cute together? I also added a baker’s twine, printed sentiment and a piece of red punched border.”

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

OK Peeps! Ready for a new challenge?! Well we know how busy you all are around this time of year, so we’ve decided to keep this fortnight’s challenge super simple. All we wanna see is a creation with a holiday/Christmas theme. That’s right, if you haven’t already, it’s probably best you get a move on and create something for the holidays (and that includes any other religious celebrations such as Hanukkah too!) and we’re hoping this challenge with give some of us, (me!) a nudge in the right direction *wink*!

Now don’t restrict yourself to cards; anything goes for this challenge! Though I myself really needed to get a move on and actually make some cards before I can even begin to think of making anything else!

I like to keep things Clean and Simple (CAS) when it comes to Christmas cards. Not only is it my fave kinda style – it’s fab for the mad mass production. I just change the colours every so often to keep my mind from going numb from repetition 😀

So here’s the first frosty li’l number:

Card Deets
{We Wish you a Merry Christmas}
Stamps: Holiday Signature Greetings, Fancy Flourishes (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: London Fog (Memento)/Versamark
Cardstock: Stamper’s Select White, Spring Rain, White Shimmer Cardstock (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Cuttlebug, Snowflake Die (Provocraft)/Nestabilities/Lavender Moon Grosgrain Ribbon (Papertrey Ink)/Shimmer Chalks/Bling (Zva)/’Chompy‘ (Corner Chomper!)

And here’s one that uses a more traditional Christmas colour combo:

Card Deets
{‘Tis The Season}
Stamps: Holiday Signature Greetings, Fancy Flourishes (Papertrey Ink)
Cardstock: Pure Poppy, Simply Chartreuse, Kraft (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Fresh Snow,Vintage Cream (Papertrey Ink)/Versamark
Accessories: Glimmer Mist/Cuttlebug/Snowflake Die (Provocraft)/Nestabilities/Fine Linen Grosgrain Ribbon (Papertrey Ink)/Bling (Zva)/Promarker (To colour my clear bling!)/Chompy (Corner Chomper)

See what a difference simply changing the colours can make?! Now you can’t tell on the pics, but there’s lots of subtle shimmer going off, especially on that first card. Using PTI’s Shimmer Cardstock adds that extra bit of Christmas magic IMHO, and Glimmer Mists are fab for added extra shimmer if you haven’t got fancy cardstock to start with!”

Over to Caryn:

“I have gone for a clean and simple approach with this design – so I can easily mass-produce it!! The Tiny Treats: Christmas set means I can do loads of different versions of this without them all needing to be identical. I still have mountains of cards to do so anything that can reduce my workload is good in my book, lol. I adore using Kraft card at the moment and paired with one of my all-time favourite colour combos – Aqua Mist and Pure Poppy, I am pretty happy with the look. I added a teeny bit of my newest obsession, Pure Poppy baker’s twine and an Aqua Mist button to add a wee bit of extra interest and to ground the focal image.”

Here’s Kate:

“Like Caryn I inked up my new Tiny Treats Christmas set for my sample – this has to be one of the most adorable sets ever! I used one of my favourite Christmas colour combos – red, white and kraft – a perfect match for those cute candy canes!”

Recipe:

Stamps: Tiny Treats Christmas/Peaceful Poinsetta
Card: Stampers Select White/Kraft/Pure Poppy/Scarlet Jewel
Ink: Memento Black/Colorbox Chalk
Other: Circle Nestabilities/Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Embossing Folder/Mat Stack No 1 Die/Corner Chomper/Fine Linen Buttons/Copic Markers

Over to our fabulous featured stamper, Bev!

“Christmas has arrived early in the North East of England with lots and lots AND LOTS of SNOW! After being a bit ‘mojoless‘, the snow has certainly got me in the Christmas spirit! It’s a good job as planning, as always, hasn’t gone to plan when it comes to my Christmas cards! As always I still have tons to make! I needed some quick & easy cards that didn’t use too much of my precious PTI supplies and this is what I came up with.

These little cuties are only 7 cm X 10.5 cm which means you can get 4 out of one sheet of card stock! I used some precious Pure Poppy felt on these 4 but when I go full pelt to cranking these out I think I will just use Pure Poppy card stock!

It’s hard to see in the photo’s but I used some PTI Shimmer card stock & coloured the images with Copic Spica pens to add some sparkle. Some Pure Poppy Bakers Twine and some snowflakes finished them off!

I hope I have inspired you to create some mini Christmas cards!”

Need more tempting to get crafting for Christmas? Well one randomly selected peep will win this super sweet stamp set, fly away!

Here are the deets:
* All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify (please state what is PTI as sometimes for us it’s hard to tell :D)

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post. Please leave the correct URL for your entry post and not just your generic blog address! If you’re having problems then just leave a comment with a link to your post featuring the project on your blog or online gallery.

We can’t wait to see you get in the Christmas spirit too!

Scrapalicious!

Ready for a new challenge?! Well we wanna see what you can do with your scraps. Yup, that’s right – you’ve been saving them forever, promising yourself that you’d use them for something and now is your chance. The moment to let those scraps shine! LOL!

Kate is off for a while dancing in Cuba. (No, seriously! She is! Lucky gal…hope she brings some sunshine and warmth back with her when she returns!) So that leaves Caryn, Bev and myself for this challenge.

I’ll confess that although I’m a messy crafter, I’m meticulously organised when it comes to scraps. I have card, patterned paper and ribbon all in separate bags divided by colour. I’ll scrimp and save the tiniest scraps of ribbon and that’s what I focused on for this challenge.

Ribbon can be tricky – it frays, you need long strips to tie the prettiest of bows with it, so what do you do with the little bits that you’re left over with? Well create your very own banner of course! I was inspired by the new PTI release and those banners in particular – *drool*

Card Deets
{It’s a Celebration}
Stamps: Fancy Flourishes, Birthday Bash Sentiments (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Antique Linen (Distress Ink)/Rich Cocoa (Memento)
Cardstock: Fine Linen (Papertrey Ink)
Patterned Paper: Library Ledger Collection (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Grosgrain Ribbon Scraps, Jute Ribbon Twine

I love that you could take this idea and create custom banners for any occasion! Just think, polka dots, satin, bitty dots or whatever colours you fancy – the possibilities are endless!

Over to Caryn:
Firstly, can I just say I LOVED this challenge! I have a drawer overflowing with the tiniest little scraps of PTI “waste” (gasp – can I say that??) and found it SOO liberating to make a use of some of those abandoned little treasures! Other than the base card which is Rustic Cream all the other bits and bobs came out of the scrap drawer. I already had the stamped frame and scallop border in there so that was my starting point – everything else just fell into place and I am right chuffed with the end result!

Now over to our lovely November featured stamper, Bev:
Like many crafters I find it hard to throw away scraps! I often die cut more shapes than I need when making a project and the ones I don’t use end up in a box to use on a later project. Same goes for ribbon scraps, the little pieces after making a bow end up in the same box. I have to say it’s not very often I go to the box to see what’s in there! It’s usually when I am faced with a challenge like this one that I go to the box!

After perusing Nichole’s blog this morning the card she had made with the Hibiscus Burst & Scarlet Jewel colour combo jumped out at me as a fantastic colour combo and a combo I’d never attempted. I had a look in my now called ‘scrapilicious’ box and found these:

A while ago I was on a butterfly embellishment kick after seeing them on Dawn McVey’s blog! I’d die cut loads of butterflies in an array of colours. The pink one using the Butterfly Dreams stamps and die was one I’d made for a set of Christening cards I’d made for a friend.

I used Nichole’s card LO changing it slightly!

So have we tempted to you go rooting through your scraps?! I hope so! Remember that it doesn’t have to be a card you create for your own entry – any paper-crafting project will count! And just to tempt you a bit more, up for grabs this fortnight for one randomly picked participant is this super sweet Fillable Frames stamp set #4:

Ready to play along? Here are those all important deets:
* All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify (please state what is PTI as sometimes for us it’s hard to tell :D)

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post. Please leave the correct URL for your entry post and not just your generic blog address! If you’re having problems then just leave a comment with a link to your post featuring the project on your blog or online gallery.

* Worldwide entries are more than welcome to share the inspiration and can be in with a chance of being a Top 3 PTI Passionista, but unfortunately prizes can only be shipped within Europe!

* Challenge closes on Monday, November 29th 2010 at 9.00am GMT

* As well as a randomly picked winner, we’ll select the top three creations we like the most and feature them on the Blog. The top three PTI Passionistas will have chance to display a Top 3 Passionista Blinkie on their own blog.

So don’t delay – root through your scraps today and turn something bland into something beautiful!

No rounded corners…

Happy Saturday, Peeps!

So the first week back at work is over and it feels like I’ve never been away! Shame I had to get a horrid cold though that started even before I headed back on Monday! It was an experience to remember to have no voice on the first day with the students! LOL!

But enough sniffling, coughing and spluttering from me; I have a card to share:

I’m thinking of giving this for my nephew’s birthday (he’ll be 11) but not sure if that flourish is too girly….mind you, do most 11 year old boys notice anything about cards?! Surely it’s all about the present, right?!

I can’t claim credit for the layout of this card, it was CASED from a creation from Mariana Grigsby! It’s definitely a layout I’ll be using again – I love it!

Oh, and if you’re wondering why there are no rounded corners on this card; my corner punch died on me :o( I know this card is begging for some rounded corners but lucky for me, the tragedy gave me the perfect excuse to buy a Corner Chomper! Now if I manage to break that baby, I know I’ve done something horribly wrong! LOL!
