Challenge: Fontabulous!!

Hello peeps and welcome to our latest challenge. Β There is a big trend in the crafting world at the moment towards combining different fonts Β – PTI have a few sets that do just that! Β So this time we’d like to see you create something with more that one font please – there’s no limit to how many fonts you choose but there has to be more than one!

Welcome Baby

{Welcome Baby}
Stamps: Mega Mixed Messages, Little Princess, Round and Round anniversary set.
Ink: Raspberry Fizz, Sweet Blush
Card: Stampers select white, Raspberry Fizz, RF paper pack.

Over to Aimes:Β I had mega plans to go through all of my PTI sets to mix ‘n’ match fonts, but then I realised that there’s just a single set that already does that for a specific occasion. Enter, Birthday Bash Sentiments. A cool and fun mix of fonts to celebrate birthdays and inked up just in time to celebrate my brother’s upcoming birthday:

Happy Birthday

{Happy Birthday}
Stamps: Birthday Bash Sentiments (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: London Fog (Memento)/Buttercup (a muse)
Cardstock: Stamper’s Select White (Papertrey Ink)

Now if fonts were edible, these fonts would be be in the form of a birthday cake – yummy! Just don’t go eating the candle now….! πŸ˜‰

Over to Kate: “I’ve been without a heat gun for way too long (my last one had a melt down!) so when my brand new one arrived this week I had to use it asap! I loved this challenge, it really made me think about using more than one sentiment on a card, and, like Aimes PTI’s Birthday Bash Sentiments fitted the bill!”

Challenge: ‘Knock on Wood’

Welcome to a fabby new challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey! I hope you can join us as we hit on a trend that is wood/woodgrain. Now don’t go thinking that just because you don’t own any wood-patterned stamps or woodgrain impression plate that you can’t play along – we just wanna see where those words take you and think outside the box if you have to!

For me, my brain is on vacation mode, so I took the whole wood-thing literally:

Peg Deets

Stamps: Background Basics: Sheet Music (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Accessories: Pegs, Acrylic Paint (Home Supply)

Yup I literally stamped on wood πŸ™‚

These sweet pegs were so easy to create: simply covered them in white acrylic paint and once dry, stamped sheet music on to them (note: steady hand required for stamping on to pegs!)

Over to Kate:
“Well the only ‘wood’ style stamp I have it the Woodgrain background set, and as I had to make a New Home card for my best friend I die cut a red ‘wooden’ house! Then, as I was rummaging through my dies, I came across the Tiny Envelope die….unused!! Oh dear. So I swiftly corrected that oversight, and can I say how cute the little envelope is!”

Card Details:
Stamps: Background Basics: Woodgrain/Mega Mixed Messages
Ink: Pure Poppy/Basic Black
Card: Stamper’s Select White/Kraft
Other: Tiny Envelope Die/Sending You Die/ Love Lives Here Die/Linen Impression Plate

Over to Caryn:
Well rather than go for the woodgrain stamps I decided to use my woodgrain impression plate (my favourite). After die cutting and stamping the fairy castle from Little Princess I added some glittery accents and then ran it through the bigshot to give it a wooden appearance might be a little hard

to see it on the card actually – but it’s there, promise!). I layered it over one of the snowflake die cuts as I thought the Aqua Mist and white colour scheme reminded me a wee bit of the snow queen’s palace!!

{Card Recipe}
Happy Birthday Princess
Stamps: Little Princess, Think Big Favourites #13, Fancy Flourishes.
Ink: Aqua Mist, Smokey Shadow
CS: Stampers Select White, Aqua Mist pattern paper (gingham)
Dies: Little Princess, snowflakes, woodgrain impression plate.

Reverse Masking – Make It Monday challenge.

Don’t know about you but when Nichole launched her new  “Make It Mondays” challenge I was full of good intentions and thought I’d be trying out the techniques every week.  Well, it’s now at Week #20 and I have entered it a grand total of …..once!  So, without further ado, here is my second go at a MIM Challenge.  This week it’s “Reverse Masking” and all the deets are HERE.

I die cut the middle sized star from the Stars die set and used it to mask an outline into which I stamped one of the paint-splattery-type stamps from Grunge Me in Pure Poppy, Hawaiian Shores and Summer Sunrise.  The Happy Birthday is from Enjoy The Ride, the “6” is from Banner Builder and “Today” is selectively stamped from the Celebrate Today stamp in Mega Mixed Messages.

Right, off for a cuppa!

Challenge: A Sketch!

Hello all, hope you had a fabulous weekend and enjoyed the extra days off – woo hoo! Everything is starting to go back to normal now (humph) so to cheer us all up here is a new challenge to sink your teeth into!

Thanks to Caryn for the first time here on A Passion for Papertrey we are giving you a sketch to follow! It’s pretty simple and don’t forget you can interpret it in any way you wish. As always you need to use at least one PTI product to be eligible for the prize.

So here is the sketch:

And here is my take on it – I stayed pretty close to the design, using a yummy colour combo of aqua, cream and red πŸ™‚

Recipe: (PTI unless otherwise stated)
Stamps: Birthday Bash Sentiments/Friends ‘Til the End
Ink: Memento black
Card: Pure Poppy/Vintage Cream/ Library Ledger paper
Other: Labels One dies (Spellbinders)/Copic Sketch Markers/Aqua Mist saddle-stitch ribbon/Rustic Twine/Aqua Mist button

Over to Caryn …

“I used a mix of Spring Moss and Pure Poppy (yum) and the focal point image comes from Blooming Button Bits. The buttons actually came off an old dress belonging to one of my girls!!! I stamped the sentiment from Mega Mixed Messages onto some off-white ribbon I had in my stash and used some off-cuts of paper from the Rustic Snowflakes paper pad.”

And here’s Aimes:
“Y’know I love a sketch challenge to kick-start the creative mojo – I find I get a little stuck in a rut otherwise, sticking to the same layouts all the time! For this sketch I flipped the stripes and moved the circular shape slightly to create a super-bright (well, it’s bright IRL!) birthday card:

Card Deets
{BIG birthday wishes}
Stamps: Birthday Bash Sentiments (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Cardstock: Stamper’s Select White, True Black, Pure Poppy, Orange Zest, Lemon Tart, Simply Chartreuse, Hawaiian Shores, Plum Pudding (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Cuttlebug/Nestabilities/True Black Vintage Buttons and True Black Grosgrain Ribbon (Papertrey Ink)

I’m not sure if you can tell on the pic, but three buttons are peeking from behind the sentiment. πŸ™‚ And the best part about this card? It was created mainly from my scraps of coloured cardstock – bonus!”

And here is our fabulous May Featured Stamper, Jen…

β€œI really enjoyed working with this sketch and I couldn’t resist pulling out one of my favorite color combinations, pure poppy & aqua mist with a neutral mixed in. I also couldn’t resist adding a little yellow too. This color combo has always drawn me in and I love working with it! The patterned paper is from one of my favorite PTI pads, Bitty Box Basics (I would LOVE to have this paper in all the PTI colors!!) and the border strips were die cut with the Simple Circles border die which is quickly becoming a favorite die because it is so versatile! Throw in a Parisian Lace doily and some paper flowers and you have a fairly quick and simple card!”

And what is up for grabs this week? A fabulous ‘Fly Away’ mini PTI set!

Here’s the boring bit…

* All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify (please state what is PTI as sometimes for us it’s hard to tell :D)

* To enter, use our inlinkz thingy at the bottom of this post (be aware that we’ve had a few niggles with it!). Please leave the correct URL for your entry post and not just your generic blog address! If you’re having problems then just leave a comment with a link to your post featuring the project on your blog or online gallery.

* Worldwide entries are more than welcome to share the inspiration and can be in with a chance of being a Top 3 PTI Passionista, but unfortunately prizes can only be shipped within Europe!

* Challenge closes on Monday, May 16th 2011 at 9.00am GMT

* As well as a randomly picked winner, we’ll select the top three creations we like the most and feature them on the Blog. The top three PTI Passionistas will have chance to display a Top 3 Passionista Blinkie on their own blog.

Looking forward to seeing all your fabulous sketch interpretations!

Anything But a Card Challenge!

Hi Papertrey fans, it’s Caryn here. Kate and Aimes have thrown me in at the deep end and have entrusted me with writing the post for our new challenge. Hopefully I won’t miss out anything important – don’t want to be sacked on my first week in the job, lol!!

So onto the challenge details. We want to see you create ANYTHING but a card. It could be a scrapbook page, a tag, gift packaging or any other creation you can think of – just not a card. All we ask is that you use at least one Papertrey Ink product in your design – simples!

When I found out what the challenge was going to be I decided I would create a gift to give my sister-in-law for my little nephew’s baptism. I’m not a fan of the generic baby gifts you can buy in jewellers shops (you know, those little trinket boxes and ornaments – not my thing at all) so I bought an inexpensive box frame from Ikea and thought I’d make a little picture for his new bedroom (they are moving house after Christmas). Aimes has kindly loaned me her Tiny Treats: Valentine stamp set and I thought the cute little images in that set would be perfect for a little 1 year old.

I used a base of Pure Poppy card and the dotty distressed paper from the Pretty Pastels collection and my EK Success star punch to make the stars (from Vintage Cream card). The images are coloured with ProMarkers and the letters (my nephews initials) are stamped in Pure Poppy using a Banana Frog alphabet set.

Over to Kate: “I love stationery sets so I decided to use one of Lauren Meader’s From The Desk Of’ Timeless Templates to make a set of notelets to have on my desk whenever I need to scribble a quick note. Excuse the picture – I will take a better one in daylight!

Kate

Over to Aimes:
“Well life is pretty hectic still, so I’m gonna ‘fess up that I’m featuring something for this challenge that I made the other week, but haven’t shared here yet; hope you can forgive me!

I just adore these treat boxes – I think I’m addicted! So cute, so sweet and oh so simple to create! Now that’s my kinda crafting when you can only squeeze in tiny amounts of inky therapy time!”

Your Favourite Colour!!

Welcome to another Passion for Papertrey challenge! This time we’re going to ask a very simple question…. what’s your favourite colour?!!

And then of course make a card using your top choice – the colour doesn’t have to be a Papertrey Ink colour if you don’t have all the colours, but, as always, must include at least one PTI product πŸ™‚

Anyone who knows me no doubt is aware of my obsession with all things Aqua and Turquoise so it was a toss up between Aqua Mist and Hawai’in Shores – Aqua Mist has always been my favourite colour but it got some serious competition when I received my Hawai’in Shores colour! Torn between the two I decided to go with the newest addition to my colour collection πŸ™‚

Recipe:

Stamps: Asian Fusion/Polka Dot Basics/Mega Mixed Messages
Card – Hawai’in Shores/Stampers Select White/True Black
Ink – Hawai’in Shores/True Black
Other – Corner Chomper

Over to Aimes:
“Well I’m not gonna surprise any of ya! Anyone who knows me, knows that my all time favourite colour is green. Pretty much any shade of green will float my boat. Not that I don’t love any other colours, just that if I had to pick only one then without a doubt, it’d be green! So without further ado, here’s my example:”

Ink: Distress Ink Antique Linen/PTI Spring Moss
Card: Kraft/Vintage Cream
