Challenge – Use 3 embellishments

Hey!

Welcome to a shiny new challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey!

For this challenge we want to see you get busy with embellishments – three different embellishments to be precise. An embellishment is simply an item that’s added to provide interest to a design. Don’t worry, we’re not going to be strict on the definition of what counts as an embellishment and what doesn’t – but think of things like ribbon, pearls, gems, sequins, die-cuts, buttons etc…Oh, and don’t limit yourself to cards – any creative project will count!

You won’t be surprised to see that I opted to create a card for this challenge. I was a little daunted by three different embellishments but cheated thought a little bit outside the box and combined three embellishments to create one larger embellishment:

Happy BirthdaySo I used a stamped and die-cut star, a button, and some twine for my embellishments that when combined make a little star embellishment. Easy peasy and great for those of us that edge towards a clean and simple style of card making. *wink*

Over to Caryn…

Hmm, this one didn’t turn out to be as simple a task as I first thought!  I am actually pretty pleased with the result although it is a tad busier than my usual style!!  My embellishments are gems, pearls and ruffle ribbon!!  Very girly don’t you think???!

Our lovely Kate is very busy moving/unpacking boxes at the moment – we don’t envy her that task! But she’ll be back for the next challenge. 🙂

We hope you get a chance to join in and show us what you can do with embellishments. Have a look here for all the challenge deets. The challenge closes at 9am on Monday August 12th and one randomly selected peep will win a $5 PTI gift certificate!

Tag – you’re it!

Firstly apologies that our linky thingy was no longer available for you peeps cutting it close to our deadline for the last challenge. Thanks for leaving your links in the comments section for us! We do know of the extra entries that were entered after it decided to be naughty don’t worry, you’ll be included when we draw a winner and decide on our Top 3 🙂

How about we start over again with a new challenge and hopefully with a linky tool that works (fingers crossed!)?! Sounds like a fun idea to me! So for this fortnight’s challenge we wanna see your fabulous takes on gift tags!

I fancied making a tag suitable for any one of the guys in my family (both young and old!) and also wanted to show you that you can play Tag too even if you don’t have a tag-shaped die:

I simply used the Mat Stack 1 Die, punched a hole and set an eyelet in the top – voila! A tag! It actually felt good to use one of the many thousands of eyelets I’ve hoarded from an era when they were popular LOL! Oooh and a bit of masking on my “Dude You Rock!” sentiment stamp provides the shortened sentiment and gives even more value for money on a sweet stamp 😀

Tag Deets
{You Rock}
Stamps: Fancy Flourishes, Star Prints, Signature Greetings (Papertrey Ink)
Cardstock: Ocean Tides
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)/Versamark
Patterned Paper: Pure Poppy Bitty Box Basics
Accessories: True Black Vintage Button, Jute Ribbon Twine

And now over to Caryn….

Hey everyone, are you all enjoying the anniversary celebrations so far on Nichole’s blog? Yesterday there was a free download of some cute tags created by each of PTI’s stamp designers – did you get it?? Well, I urge you to go grab it, there’s some gorgeous images on there, one of which I have used here on my tag. This one is from Heather Nichols. Kate and Aimes will probably be rolling their eyes at me (wink) for using Pure Poppy again but it literally goes with just about everything (not sure about Melon Berry – haven’t tried that combo….). I have used Polka Dot Basics II and embossed it with clear powder on the background and coloured the flower on the image in with a red ProMarker as the original is Melon Berry and I wanted it red!!

And here’s a close up!

{Card recipe}
Free anniversary download
Stamps: Polka Dot Basics II, Banner Builder
Cardstock: Spring Moss, Pure Poppy.
Ink: Pure Poppy
Other: Pure Poppy dating dots ribbon, Pure Poppy bakers twine, Promarker

Here’s Kate:

For my tags I played around with one of my favourite colour combos – kraft and aqua mist – some new dies and some felt.

All the PTI dies make tag-making so fun!!

These parcels are going to two very special ladies who deserve a special tag, and I’m definitely going to be making more tags in the future!

Finally, as our featured stamper for February, here’s Imke’s fabulous tag:

I think you’ll agree that this one amazing tag!

So ready to play ‘Tag’?! I hope so! Up for grabs for one randomly selected peep will be this Fillable Frames #11 stamp set:

Anything But a Card Challenge!

Hi Papertrey fans, it’s Caryn here. Kate and Aimes have thrown me in at the deep end and have entrusted me with writing the post for our new challenge. Hopefully I won’t miss out anything important – don’t want to be sacked on my first week in the job, lol!!

So onto the challenge details. We want to see you create ANYTHING but a card. It could be a scrapbook page, a tag, gift packaging or any other creation you can think of – just not a card. All we ask is that you use at least one Papertrey Ink product in your design – simples!

When I found out what the challenge was going to be I decided I would create a gift to give my sister-in-law for my little nephew’s baptism. I’m not a fan of the generic baby gifts you can buy in jewellers shops (you know, those little trinket boxes and ornaments – not my thing at all) so I bought an inexpensive box frame from Ikea and thought I’d make a little picture for his new bedroom (they are moving house after Christmas). Aimes has kindly loaned me her Tiny Treats: Valentine stamp set and I thought the cute little images in that set would be perfect for a little 1 year old.

I used a base of Pure Poppy card and the dotty distressed paper from the Pretty Pastels collection and my EK Success star punch to make the stars (from Vintage Cream card). The images are coloured with ProMarkers and the letters (my nephews initials) are stamped in Pure Poppy using a Banana Frog alphabet set.

Over to Kate: “I love stationery sets so I decided to use one of Lauren Meader’s From The Desk Of’ Timeless Templates to make a set of notelets to have on my desk whenever I need to scribble a quick note. Excuse the picture – I will take a better one in daylight!

Over to Aimes:
“Well life is pretty hectic still, so I’m gonna ‘fess up that I’m featuring something for this challenge that I made the other week, but haven’t shared here yet; hope you can forgive me!

I just adore these treat boxes – I think I’m addicted! So cute, so sweet and oh so simple to create! Now that’s my kinda crafting when you can only squeeze in tiny amounts of inky therapy time!”

And here’s what our wonderfully talented Bev, our November Featured Stamper has created for us using some of the latest products:
For my ‘Anything but a Card’ project I decided to use some of my new PTI goodies. They are the Favour It 2 Box Die, The Limitless Layers Dies, Holiday jar Fillers and Holiday Tags 2010.

And so what can you win?

Some luscious Raspberry Fizz yumminess. 2 sheets of Raspberry Fizz cardstock, one sheet of each of the 12 designs in the Raspberry Fizz mix paper collection, 3 foot-long samples of Raspberry Fizz ribbon (Satin Dots, Satin and Twill) and a few Raspberry Fizz Buttons.

So here’s the serious bit!!

Hip to be Square!

Hey everyone, and welcome to another Passion for Papertrey challenge!

So are you feeling hip and cool this week? We hope so because we know what’s hip don’t we…. yep, being square! Ok, so we’re not asking you to stop being the trendy stamping ladies that we know you are (!) – but to come up with a card or project that features squares. You can be as innovative as you like, or, if you can’t come up with much, how about simply making a square card?!

I may have gone a bit overboard with the squares on my card – I’m not even sure how many there are on it! I used my Monogram Borders and Corners set which I haven’t used for years, and kept the design pretty simple:

Recipe:

Stamps – Borders & Corners Monogram Edition/Star Prints
Card – Stamper’s Select White/Aqua Mist
Ink – Memento black
Other – star punch(SU)/black pen

Over to Aimes
“OK, I’ll ‘fess up – I’m a bit of a geek so being square comes easy to me LOL! But geek is chic, right? So after squaring it up in my crafty corner, here’s what I’ve come up with:

Hope you can see my square elements! I’ve taken a little creative licence with my square card base courtesy of Chompy (my corner chomper) but there’s also squares on the bitty box basics DP too to make up for it *wink*

The clouds were created by using a negative die cut as a stencil and sponging Fresh Snow ink over it. I kinda like the effect! “

Card Deets
{Soaring by to say Hi}

Stamps: Everyday Button Bits (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Fresh Snow (Papertrey Ink)/Rich Cocoa (Memento)/Antique Linen (Distress Ink)
Card: Kraft,Vintage Cream (Papertrey Ink)
Patterned Paper: Spring Rain Bitty Box Basics (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Cloud Die, Spring Button Mix, Jute Ribbon Twine (Papertrey Ink)/Cuttlebug/Nestabilities

And as our featured stamper for September, here’s Margaret!

“So, squares, eh?? COME ON, PEOPLE !! This is an easy challenge! See if you can top my record number of 4 entries for a previous one !! I’ll start you off by having made 2 for my featured stamper position (OK, I was totally putting off doing my planning/marking…!)

This first card was so easy – it uses 4 images from Sign Language, inked in variegated blues on a folded ribbon background. You could so churn these out for that smug, handmade Christmas feeling, and there are enough images on Sign Language for this card to be your go-to quickie for any occasion.

Second card was a little more complex – only because I don’t have the new Framed set (my birthday is at the end of this month, if anyone wants to enable me !!) The images are from Masculine Motifs (just how versatile is this set !!) and the sentiment from Autumn Abundance. I dipped the edges of the panels in Versamark and then gold embossed them for definition. The border was drawn with a Versamark pen and gold embossed as well.

So folks, I throw you an additional challenge (no additional prize – I’m cheap !!) Could you make more than one entry for this challenge ? Remember, using a square card counts, square punch, heck, there are loads of Q+L (Quick and Lazy – my trademark ) ways to be a square!”

So you ready to play along? Here are the deets:

* Challenge closes on Monday, October 4th 2010 at 9.00am GMT

* A winner will be chosen at random to receive this stamp set!:

In addition to this, we’ll select the top three creations we like the most and feature them on the Blog. The top three PTI Passionistas will have chance to display a Top 3 Passionista Blinkie on their own blog.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

No rounded corners…

Happy Saturday, Peeps!

So the first week back at work is over and it feels like I’ve never been away! Shame I had to get a horrid cold though that started even before I headed back on Monday! It was an experience to remember to have no voice on the first day with the students! LOL!

But enough sniffling, coughing and spluttering from me; I have a card to share:

I’m thinking of giving this for my nephew’s birthday (he’ll be 11) but not sure if that flourish is too girly….mind you, do most 11 year old boys notice anything about cards?! Surely it’s all about the present, right?!

I can’t claim credit for the layout of this card, it was CASED from a creation from Mariana Grigsby! It’s definitely a layout I’ll be using again – I love it!

Oh, and if you’re wondering why there are no rounded corners on this card; my corner punch died on me :o( I know this card is begging for some rounded corners but lucky for me, the tragedy gave me the perfect excuse to buy a Corner Chomper! Now if I manage to break that baby, I know I’ve done something horribly wrong! LOL!

Faithful Stars!

Happy Tuesday!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We, (my guy and me) went to visit his family to celebrate two birthdays – both were guy birthdays and although I had one card in my stash that I considered suitable for a teenager, I had to start from scratch to make a card for his Dad!!!

I find Dads so hard to create for, on the one hand I know they won’t be rude and criticise anything I make for them, they’ll be appreciative whatever I make for them! But I always want them to really ‘like’ the card I make for them – KWIM?

So I sat for a while just thinking, then sighed in defeat as I just grabbed my Star Prints set and got busy:
I always grab this set for guy cards, it’s almost a defeatist option for me! I think I need another guy stamp set seeing as the females in my family are pretty outnumbered by the guys.

Now the card I’ve made is kinda simple and I think it’s the only guy card I’ve made which features a bow on it but I hope it’s not too girly!

Thanks for stopping by – you know there’s still plenty of time to enter our current challenge if you’re not doing anything this week *wink*

Card Deets
{It’s Your Day}
Stamps: PTI – Star Prints/Practicing Creativity Designs – For the Love of Dots
Ink: PTI – Spring Rain,Spring Moss/Versamark/Distress Ink – Antique Linen
Cardstock: PTI – Vintage Cream, Kraft
Paper: PTI – Spring Moss Bitty Box Basics
Accessories: PTI -Jute Ribbon Twine/Cuttlebug/Nestabilities /Corner Rounder

Enjoy Life – Enjoy the weekend!

Happy Friday!!!

Just poppin‘ in with a card that features some PTI goodness:

Card Recipe
Stamps: Papertrey Ink Star Prints
Ink: Memento Black
Cardstock: Papertrey Ink True Black/Stamper’s Select White/DCWV Brights Collection
Accesories: Papertrey Ink Hibiscus Burst Grosgrain Ribbon/Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch and Stamps/Cuttlebug/Nestabilities/Papertrey Ink Impression Plate/White Gel Pen
/Shimmer Chalks/Hero Arts gem/

I finally got my impression plate to kinda work with my cuttlebug! It took some experimenting and some near misses but I’m kinda happy with the depth of impression. I hear if you mist water on your cardstock before you run it through the machine it leaves an even deeper impression – might try that one out when I’m not as impatient for results LOL!

Have a fabby weekend!!! There’s plenty of time to enter our current challenge y’know *wink* Those of you who have entered already are great at long/tall cards! I thought this would be a toughie for ya!
