One Layer Challenge

Welcome to another challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey! This time we’re going to strip it back and ask you to make a one layer card. I’m a huge fan of one layer cards, but they can be a challenge can’t they?!

It can be easy to keep adding layers and embellishments but the art of one layer cards is keeping it simple which is often easier said than done! Remember you can use embellishments on your project but there must only be one layer ๐Ÿ™‚

There are some real advantages to one layer cards – they’re super quick to make, cheap to send, easy to mass produce if needed and don’t use too many supplies. Have I tempted you to join in yet?!

For my sample I decided to go for a circle card, and that super cute car from the Enjoy the Ride set. I wanted a clean and simple design so simply stamped the car, coloured it with Copics and a white gel pen, and drew a circle around it to add a border. A touch of sponging around the edges with some Distress Ink and I was done!

Recipe:
Stamps: Enjoy the Ride
Card: Kraft
Ink: Memento/Antique Linen Distress Ink
Other: Copic Sketch Markers/White Gel Pen/Circle Nestabilities

Over to Aimes:
Eeek! One layer!?!?! Seriously?! Well Kate pointed out that since I am soooooooo busy at the moment and already behind on the PTI blog schedule, this should be a quickie card for me to make – nice try Kate, but not much can sweeten this challenge for me LOL!

So after some seriously failed attempts, here’s what I came up with:

…and I’m still not totally satisfied but if you saw my failed attempts you’d be impressed with this one!

Card Recipe
Stamps: Turning a New Leaf/Daily Designs Sentiments
Ink: Versamark/Dark Chocolate
Card: Lemon Tart
Accessories: White Gel Pen/Corner Rounder/Dark Chocolate Twill

And here is our June Featured Stamper, Chris:

“I think that one layer cards are a real challenge โ€“ so often a case of right first time as they can be very unforgiving! For my card I used the Boards and Beams set โ€“ I love this set as you can dress it up or down depending on the occasion and the Christmas additions (Home for the Holidays) with the snow and wreaths make beautiful cards.

I simply stamped the images in Black memento ink onto Stampers Select white cardstock and coloured them in with Copic markers. I find it useful to draw a fine pencil line across my card so I can line up the house and fences and itโ€™s easily removed after. I masked the fences to try and stamp the trees at slightly different heights.

The only drawback with using Copic markers on Stampers Select card is that they do bleed though to the other side โ€“ not great for a one layer card! I put a piece of pretty paper on the inside to cover it up โ€“ I hope that is ok for the challenge!”

Fancy challenging yourself to creating a ‘One-Layer Wonder?’

Your Favourite Colour!!

Welcome to another Passion for Papertrey challenge! This time we’re going to ask a very simple question…. what’s your favourite colour?!!

And then of course make a card using your top choice – the colour doesn’t have to be a Papertrey Ink colour if you don’t have all the colours, but, as always, must include at least one PTI product ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyone who knows me no doubt is aware of my obsession with all things Aqua and Turquoise so it was a toss up between Aqua Mist and Hawai’in Shores – Aqua Mist has always been my favourite colour but it got some serious competition when I received my Hawai’in Shores colour! Torn between the two I decided to go with the newest addition to my colour collection ๐Ÿ™‚

Recipe:

Stamps: Asian Fusion/Polka Dot Basics/Mega Mixed Messages
Card – Hawai’in Shores/Stampers Select White/True Black
Ink – Hawai’in Shores/True Black
Other – Corner Chomper

Over to Aimes:
“Well I’m not gonna surprise any of ya! Anyone who knows me, knows that my all time favourite colour is green. Pretty much any shade of green will float my boat. Not that I don’t love any other colours, just that if I had to pick only one then without a doubt, it’d be green! So without further ado, here’s my example:”

Stamps: Background Basics: Text Style/Turning a New Leaf/Friends ’til the End
Ink: Distress Ink Antique Linen/PTI Spring Moss
Card: Kraft/Vintage Cream
Papers: Bitty Box Basics/Turning a New Leaf

As our featured stamper this month, Marinette couldn’t choose between her two favourtie colours: Red and Kraft! So she did what any other crafty peep would do and use both LOL!

It’s Tea Time!

Hi and Happy Monday everybody, this is Vanessa having the honour to post a project today!

I love tea. I always did – never drank any coffee before I was like 23 or so. Now I finally bought the adorable “Tea for Two” set and don’t know what took me so long! Couldn’t wait to ink it up and wanted to create something special. So I made this:

I sewed this tea cosy and made two tea pot appliquรฉs, stamping the image onto the floral fabric, cutting it out and ironing one on each side of the cosy.

Then I tried to create matching teapots on paper for the bag and the card. To achieve this I used images from the “Turning a New Leaf” set and “Beautiful Blooms” set. The glassine bag contains my new favourite herbal tea, called “Happiness” (and it works!!).

That’s it. I hope you like my little set!

Have a great week everybody! And thanks again to Aimes and Kate, it’s so exciting to post here!

Vanessa xx

Challenge: Nature!

Hello hello! It’s Kate here – yes I am still alive lol! I’m sorry for having been MIA for a while – I must say a HUGE thank you to dear dear Aimes for keeping our l’il old blog going while I was on holiday – thanks hun, what a star you are!

So it’s time for another challenge and this fortnight we’re going back to nature – we’d like you to come up with a nature inspired project. So it can be flowers, trees, leaves or anything that says ‘nature’ to you!

For my sample I used three of my newest PTI goodies – the yummy leaf papers and matching stamp set and Dawn McVey’s ‘Say it With Style’ sentiment set… this is going to be an absolute fave I can tell!

Recipe:
Stamps – Turning a New Leaf/Say it With Style
Card – Stamper’s Select White/Spring Moss
Paper – Turning a New Leaf
Ink – Spring Moss/Dark Chocolate
Ribbon/Button – Spring Moss

Over to Aimes: “Hmmm…nature….well I would love to say there’ s loads of it around me that I can relate to a PTI stamp set but that would be fibbing. So instead I turned to a stamp set that I hope will inspire nature to get a move on – I’m bored of winter now LOL!

This was created using a masking technique. The white border was simple; I simply used a white gel pen to draw around the nestability I used to cut out the Melon Berry panel.

Melon Berry is just one of those colours I tend to pass on so I really wanted to make it a feature on this card. I’m still not sure if I like it, but the recipient seemed to!”

I also decorated the inside of my card too, I’ve noticed that seems to be a trend around Blogland at the mo…”

Card Recipe
Stamps: Friends til the End
Ink: Dark Chocolate
Cardstock: Dark Chocolate/Melon Berry/Vintage Cream
Accessories: Cuttlebug/Nestabilities/Cream Vintage Buttons/Vintage Cream Satin Ribbon/Cream Ribbon Twine/White Gel Pen

Tea for Two – Love at First Sight!

Hello Everyone!

As part of my introduction as December’s Featured Stamper I had to answer a few questions about my love of PTI and stamping, and one of them asked for a favourite colour combo. I mentioned a card I had recently done which featured Vintage Cream, Spring Moss, Melon Berry, Kraft and Plum Pudding, and I promised that although it sounded overwhelming that it really works! So I thought I had finally better share that card with you, and how it gave me inspiration to create a whole set of cards with the same themes and colours – something I’ve never done before! All of the cards featured Tea for Two, which I just completely fell for when I was using it!

So, here is the first card featuring that colour combo:See, I told you the combo works! As long as you keep the balance of the amount of colour and how it’s featured I think it’s quite possible to use 3, 4 or even 5 colours on one card successfully!

The background pattern was created with Giga Guidelines, with the medallions embossed with my matt clear embossing powder. I love this stuff! The Plum Pudding strip is again a scrap from a previous card, again showing that scraps are worth saving in my opinion, no matter how small!
Just one last design detail for this card before I move onto the others – I used two loops of ribbon but for interest I had one behind all the layers and one overlapping between layers. I think it adds a nice bit of interest!

I was so in love with this card when I made it that I even almost took it to work with me the next day so I could keep staring at it, lol! I didn’t though!

So, seeing as I loved the colour combo so much I decided to create a whole set of cards along the same lines. On some cards I added are Dark Chocolate as well, just to add a bit of contrast/difference. Here they all are:Don’t they all work so well together as a complimentary set?! I added some other sets into the mix as well, with Background Basics: Diamonds, Turning a New Leaf, Signature Greetings and Polka Dot Basics II (on the Twill Ribbon) all making an appearance! The rhinestones were all coloured with Copics to match the colour scheme, and you’ll see that my favourite Martha Stewart Punch was used a few times too!

I was going to create a Keeping Tabs gift box for all of these but I just couldn’t get my printer to play ball with my PTI cardstock! Next year will be a different story though – I’ve bought a Cricut Expression so I’ll be able to cut out the templates once they’ve been switched over .svg (or if I can figure out how to do it myself, lol).

So what do you think of all of these? Do you have a favourite? Can you even pick a favourite?! lol, I can’t, I love almost every detail of every one! I’ve definitely found a colour combo that I really love. I can’t wait for the reformulated Melon Berry ink – then it will match all the other Melon Berry elements even better!

I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank Kate and Aimes for allowing me to be December’s Featured Stamper. I’ve had a real blast, not only with the challenges and the posts, but also working with girls, it’s been a real pleasure! And to the rest of you I’d like to wish you all the very best for a peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Taheerah xx
